Mosley: There will be no breakaway series - F1 News

Finally, the politics is over for now. Thank God the cancer of F1 is leaving soon but we're still stuck with Bernie and the possibility of losing the classic F1 tracks. I would have prefered the teams forming their own series though, just to show the FIA and Bernie that the teams and the fans are the real reason the sport exists.

The threat of a Formula One breakaway series has been averted after agreement was on Wednesday reached between motor sport's world governing body, the FIA, and the Formula One Teams' Association.

As a result, FIA president Max Mosley has confirmed he will not now stand for re-election when his fourth term ends in October.

The news follows a breakthrough meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris, and a cost-cutting deal being struck between the FIA and the eight members of FOTA - Ferrari, McLaren, BMW Sauber, Renault, Toyota, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Brawn GP.

Confirming the compromise, Mosley said: "There will be no split. We have agreed to a reduction of costs.

"There will be one F1 Championship, but the objective is to get back to the spending levels of the early '90s within two years."

With regard to his own position, Mosley added: "I will not be up for re-election, now we have peace."

The agreement ends two months of wrangling since Mosley announced after a World Council meeting at the end of April that a voluntary £40million budget cap would be imposed from next season.

That prompted a rebellion, with the eight teams announcing on Thursday night they would be planning a rival series.

Following Wednesday's meeting, F1 surpremo Bernie Ecclestone commented that he was "very happy common sense has prevailed".

Zoom in to see the action Zoom in and out to track the progress of the race around a particular section of the track. Choose your driver Designate the racing driver of your choice and the software will highlight your chosen driver on the detailed track map and depict all other data relative to the chosen driver, including lap time differences between your chosen driver and all others in the race. Live timing screen Toggle across to see the main timing screens that the team engineers use at the circuit. Replay feature After the sessions have concluded you have the ability to replay any session at any time you choose, or jump to a particular point within the session. This means if you record the race and start the application as you replay the recording, you can enjoy the live timing alongside your video recording. To run the application live, your iPhone will require a 3G phone signal or WiFi connection, and your iPod touch will require a Wifi connection.
